Montgomery has gained a “world class fiber network” which is expected to grow the city’s technological relevance within the state of Alabama.
The company providing the new fiber network, C-Spire, has already made nearly 2,000 homes and more than 400 businesses in the Montgomery area fiber accessible.
“C Spire’s fiber network expansion to Montgomery will complement our community’s unique IT assets while bolstering the economic development potential of our region,” said Mayor Steven L. Reed. “This world-class fiber network will be a game changer for the entire River Region.”
Leslie Sanders, vice president of the Southern division for Alabama Power, credited Reed for his “focus” on technological development.
“Every aspect of our community is leaning more heavily into technology and Mayor Reed’s vision to focus on this area is key to our city’s future growth,” said Sanders. “The technology-driven partnerships between businesses, education leaders and community stakeholders will elevate all of Montgomery.”
Octavius Jackson, business consultant with O. Maynard Jackson & Associates and liaison for the initiative, said the expansion of the network will improve the standard of living in the city.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the city that raised me, alongside the administration of Mayor Steven L. Reed,” Jackson said. “I am excited to work with Mayor Reed and his team to execute the goals for Montgomery to become a major tech center in the Southeast, providing greater access to leading-edge technology for all citizens and businesses in the River Region, a catalyst to a better quality of life.”
C-Spire said it is installing additional fiber to expand the network to nearly 3,000 homes in 15 fiberhoods (one or more connected neighborhoods) within Montgomery.
