Jeb Bush vs. Bobby Jindal, representing the two predominant mindsets in the party on whether Republicans should push to repeal Obamacare:
Bush:
“Politically it’s quite dicey for the Republican Party.”
Jindal:
“Repeal and defund is certainly a fight worth having.”
Through the 2016 lens, these statements reveal something about both men. It shows Bush isn’t willing to kowtow to the right, which could end up costing him a shot at the nomination or prohibit him from entering the contest altogether. It shows Jindal’s slide to the right and a self-recognition that in order to move into the top-tier of GOP contenders, he must at least fight Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz to a draw on holy grail issues like Obamacare.
