Brooks appoints Marshall Yates as chief of staff

Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) announced Monday that he has promoted Alabama native Marshall Yates to serve as his new chief of staff.

Yates has been working for Brooks since early 2017, most recently as his legislative director. He has previously held numerous roles on Republican campaigns and other conservative institutions.

In a statement, Brooks described Marshall as “a talented attorney with years of experience on Capitol Hill that has given him growing expertise in the legislative process and helped him build relationships with others in Congress.”

A congressional chief of staff is the highest-ranking unelected official in a congressional member’s office. They are required to have expertise in various aspects of political life.

Yates graduated from Auburn in 2011 and Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law in 2015.

“[T]he biggest challenge I will have with Marshall Yates is one common to Alabama. We are simply going to have to balance out those Auburn orange & blue socks, and Auburn Tigers flag, Marshall displays wherever he works,” said Brooks, an Alabama fan.

“Becoming chief of staff is a dream come true. I’m excited for the challenge, and I plan to channel that excitement into helping Congressman Brooks accomplish his conservative agenda for Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District and America,” remarked Yates.

Yates, who maintains a lively personal twitter account, is respected among conservative operatives in the Alabama political world.

“I look forward to working closely with Marshall to fight in Washington for policies that benefit the people of Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District and America,” added Brooks.

Yates will succeed retiring chief of staff Mark Pettitt.
