U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) has secured more than $4 million through fiscal year 2026 appropriations for road improvements along the Deerfoot Parkway in Trussville and Hollywood Boulevard connecting Mountain Brook, Homewood, and Birmingham.
Britt secured the funding through her role on the Senate Committee on Appropriations. The Deerfoot Parkway project will include road widening and additional vehicle lanes to improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion along the highway.
Hollywood Boulevard improvements will include new pedestrian access, a new traffic signal at the Highway 280 exit ramp, and an additional turn lane on the eastbound on-ramp.
“This funding will result in a safer, more family-friendly community and transportation hub,” Britt said. “I’m eager to see the impact this strategic investment will have across Trussville, Mountain Brook, Homewood, and Birmingham.”
Trussville Mayor Ben Short and Commissioner Joe Knight said the funding addresses a longstanding community priority.
“The Deerfoot Parkway project has long been a priority for our community,” they said in a joint statement. “Advancing this work in phases allows us to take a strategic and responsible approach to easing pressure on Highway 11 while planning for continued growth.”
Mountain Brook Mayor Graham Smith credited years of regional collaboration for making the project possible. “This project represents the best of what our region can accomplish when we work together,” Smith said. “While the bridge improvements will directly benefit Mountain Brook residents, the broader impact will strengthen connectivity and safety across our entire region for decades to come.”
Homewood Mayor Jennifer Andress said the funding delivers on years of advocacy. “We have worked for years to make connectivity and safety upgrades along Hollywood Boulevard, and now that is finally happening, thanks to Senator Britt’s support,” Andress said.
