Sen. Katie Britt has added a fourth feather to her senatorial hat.
Britt (R-Montgomery), already a member of the Senate Appropriations, Banking, and Rules committees, will serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee in the 119th Congress.
The Judiciary Committee evaluates all judicial nominations for the federal judiciary, including the Supreme Court, and has broad jurisdiction over several legislative areas—including immigration and issues related to our Constitution.
“I am proud my Republican colleagues selected me to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee and am honored to have the opportunity to serve under the leadership of incoming Chairman Chuck Grassley,” Britt said in a statement. “I will work tirelessly to bring Alabama’s conservative values to the forefront of the committee’s decisions, especially when evaluating nominees for the federal judiciary and safeguarding the God-given rights and individual liberties protected by the U.S. Constitution.”
In the coming weeks, this committee is expected to hold hearings for President Donald Trump’s Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi and FBI Director nominee Kash Patel, among others.
“As an attorney, I am committed to ensuring America’s judicial system is run by those who interpret the law, rather than leftwing activist judges seeking to legislate from the bench,” Britt said. “I am also looking forward to utilizing my role on the Judiciary Committee to work alongside President Trump to end the border crisis and strengthen immigration enforcement across our nation’s interior.
“Together, we will make America safe again for hardworking families.”
Subcommittee assignments and chairmanships have yet to be announced.
“Katie Britt is a bright legal mind and a dedicated voice for Alabamians,” said incoming Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). “I look forward to working with her on the Senate Judiciary Committee to help restore safety and the rule of law.”
