Britt: Banning gas stoves ‘government overreach’

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt  is fighting back against the latest attempt by the Biden administration to ban gas stoves.

“Personally, I think the Biden Administration should be more concerned with the financial crunch Americans are feeling at their kitchen tables rather than taking away their kitchen appliances,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said on Twitter.

Britt joined several of her Republican colleagues in introducing the “Save Our Gas Stoves Act,” which would prevent the administration from banning gas stoves.

“There is perhaps no greater example of government overreach than the radical attempts to eradicate the use of gas stoves,” Britt said in a press release. “I’m proud to join Senator Sullivan and my colleagues in introducing this commonsense measure to ensure that hardworking American families continue to have access to affordable appliance choices for their homes.”

The legislation was introduced Friday by Britt and U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission admitting they were exploring the idea earlier this year.

Britt joins other members of the Alabama congressional delegation who have already spoken out against the potential ban.

A similar bill, the “Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act,” passed the House this month by a 248-180 vote with bipartisan support.
