Britt and Tuberville officially back Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary

Both of Alabama’s U.S. Senators are showing their support for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense.

Pete Hegseth’s nomination has received backlash, with some claiming he’s unqualified and others accusing him of misconduct in the past. New Yorker magazine also claimed this week that Hegseth was “forced out of previous leadership positions for financial mismanagement, sexist behavior, and being repeatedly intoxicated on the job.”

Despite the accusations, Hegseth said he’s “not backing down.”

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) sat down with the nominee in Washington D.C. Thursday where they discussed some of the accusations as well as his proposals to reform the U.S. Dept. of Defense.

“I enjoyed meeting with [Pete Hegseth] and hearing about his plans to achieve President Trump’s peace through strength agenda,” Britt said. “He is committed to putting our warfighters in the best position and returning the Pentagon’s focus to our force’s lethality.”

“We also had a great discussion about the importance of Alabama to our national defense,” she added. “I emphasized the imperative to base Space Command HQ on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, as well as the opportunities to further utilize Fort Novosel to benefit our men and women in uniform while creating efficiencies. Our great state’s installations, capabilities, and synergies will help protect our nation and our liberties long into the future.”

The senator says Hegseth has her full support.

“During our conversation, I asked direct questions about allegations that have been reported by the media, which Pete answered with candor and transparency. Based on our meeting and his answers, he has my support.”

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has also continued to fight in support of Hegseth, arguing that he’s exactly what’s needed to fix the current problems at the Pentagon.
