Given recent controversies and the unusually high number of Alabama law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty over the last couple of years, municipal police, county sheriffs’ personnel and other state law enforcement officers have had to be extra cautious.

That includes ensuring the necessary steps are taken when officer safety is threatened, and Blount County Sheriff Mark Moon is taking no exceptions.

In a post to social media on Thursday, Moon warned that should threats be made, there would be consequences.

“In today’s society, it has become common practice to vilify Law Enforcement and praise the law breakers,” the post said. “As much as I want to voice my personal opinion on some matters I understand that I must be professional and understand that these things are part of the job. With that said I will absolutely not tolerate threats toward my deputies and their families. Rest assured if you threaten one of mine or their families you will answer for it. We may be crowded in the jail but we will make room for you.”

Moon later revealed a juvenile was in custody “for making terroristic threats against one of my guys and their family.”
