“I think it’s like the captain of the Titanic calling the iceberg phony,” she said. “I think the only phony thing going on is the narrative the White House is trying to push off on the American people.”
On Fox News Channel’s “Your World” on Thursday, Wetumpka Tea Party activist Becky Gerritson, who previously participated in a congressional hearing after it was revealed her organization was targeted by the Internal Revenue Service, reacted to White House officials, including President Barack Obama, calling these wrongdoings “fake” or “phony” scandals.
Gerritson explained that despite claims there is an investigation underway, she has yet to be contacted by the FBI on the matter, which was part of the reason she claimed the administration is “stonewalling.”
“I believe this administration is stonewalling the investigation,” she continued. “Taking the fifth and now calling it ‘fake’ or ‘phony.’ I still have not been contacted by the FBI, so to me it looks like nothing is being done.”
Gerritson reconstructed the timeline and told host Stuart Varney it suggested there wasn’t anything “fake” or “phony” about these alleged indiscretions.
“Last year when we were going through the targeting, on April 23, the chief counsel for the IRS met with Obama,” she said. “The next day, Doug Shulman, the IRS commissioner, met with one of the top cabinet officials for eight and a half hours. And the very next day, April 25, new directives come down from the chief counsel of the IRS redoubling their efforts to target conservative groups. I think a toddler can connect the dots and this is not a Republican made-up scandal. This came from testimony from IRS employees … I think he wants it to go away and it’s very possible he’s trying to cover something up.”
Gerritson went on to include the Benghazi terrorist attack and what some have called the cover-up surrounding the details of that attack as another example of the “fake” or “phony” label being used improperly by this administration.
“I think he wants I normally a very nice, calm person but it makes my blood boil,” Gerritson said. “I was very irate. I think the American people need to understand what is happening to our country when the federal government can target citizens because of their political affiliation. Also they can take a scandal like Benghazi and you know, four people were killed and then say ‘it didn’t happen’ after they tried to cover it up. It just — it blows my mind and I am sick of it.”
