Roby named Chair of Subcommittee on Military Oversight and Investigations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, yesterday named Rep. Martha Roby Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

Rep. Roby thanked Chairman McKeon for selecting her for this post, and promised to continue working diligently to ensure proper oversight of the Department of Defense.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and responsibility to chair the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations,” Rep. Roby said. “It is a tremendous honor to chair a subcommittee, particularly one so critical to ensuring our military operates with efficiency and effectiveness.

“Now is a crucial time for our military. The ever-changing landscape means more uncertainty for our warfighters and policymakers at the Pentagon. It is as important as ever that the House Armed Services Committee fulfill its military oversight role and make sure we provide for the common defense of this great nation. I look forward to working with Chairman McKeon and my colleagues on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations in this new capacity.”

The Subcommittee plays a “watchdog” role, conducting studies and investigations to prevent waste, fraud, abuse and inefficiencies within the Department of Defense. Chairman McKeon expressed confidence in his selection of Rep. Roby to chair the Subcommittee.

“I am honored that Congressman Roby has agreed to chair the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee,” Chairman McKeon said. “I know she will bring the energy and attention to this job that she has already brought to her work on the full committee. O&I is a vital part of the Armed Services Committee’s oversight mission, compelling the military to address difficult truths and informing our legislative approach as we help overcome tough issues. I know that under Martha’s leadership, O&I will continue to serve this important role well.”

Rep. Roby represents two major military installations within Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District: Fort Rucker in Southeast Alabama and Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery. She played a key role in passing the most recent National Defense Authorization Act, serving as a House designee on the conference committee.
