Billionaire megadonor Sheldon Adelson hosts Chris Christie in Nevada

YH Sheldon Adelson

Today’s a day Barbara Buono could more plausibly hit Chris Christie for drifting away from the concerns of New Jerseyans.

The New Jersey governor is in Las Vegas, being hosted at a fundraiser by Sheldon and Miriam Adelson.

The Las Vegas Sun cues up Christie’s disparaging remarks about Sin City for good measure:

The event is technically for Christie’s gubernatorial re-election campaign this year, but it’s never too early for a potential presidential contender to visit an early caucus state.

The potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate’s visit comes a few years after he derided the No. 1 gambling mecca in America in an effort to promote Atlantic City, the country’s No. 2 gambling destination.

“There is no reason people should go to Las Vegas in the summer,” Christie said in September 2011. “Why would you go to the middle of the desert in the summer? You’d have to be stupid to do that.”

Adelson, who spent $100 million on behalf of Republican presidential candidates in 2012, said in June he liked Christie but was noncommittal about his 2016 choice.

The Nevada Democratic Party is on the scene reminding reporters of Christie’s support for Iowa Rep. Steve King, who recently described immigrants as having cantaloupe-sized calves “because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert.”
