Bill Morris, a longtime public servant and community leader, has announced his candidacy for Alabama House District 50. Morris said he hopes to bring decades of local government experience and a commitment to St. Clair County to the Alabama Legislature.

State Rep. Jim Hill (R-Moody), who has represented HD50 since 2014, recently announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.

Morris, a lifetime resident of the area, served as mayor of Moody from 1992 to 2003, leading the city through steady growth and infrastructure improvements.

Since then, he has worked as general manager of the Leeds Water Works. He also serves on the St. Clair County Board of Education and was recently appointed by Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth to the Central Alabama Water Board.

“I’ve spent my life working to make our communities better, safer, and more prosperous,” Morris said. “Now, I want to take that experience and dedication to Montgomery to serve the people of District 50 and help improve the lives of families across St. Clair County.”

His campaign platform will center on three priorities: supporting law enforcement, investing in workforce development, and strengthening education.

“If elected, I will fight to ensure our schools have the resources they need, expand job training and career opportunities for our workforce, and always stand behind the men and women who protect and serve our communities,” Morris said.

House District 50 includes a large part of St. Clair County, one of central Alabama’s fastest-growing areas. Morris said he hopes to bring an experienced voice to Montgomery backed by deep local roots and a record of practical leadership.

In addition to his public service roles, Morris serves on the State Executive Republican Committee for St. Clair County and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Foundation, where he was appointed by Sheriff Billy Murray.

He also worked as county coordinator for Governor Kay Ivey’s 2018 gubernatorial campaign.
