Former UAB head coach Bill Clark told Yellowhammer Sports Podcast host CJ Duncan on Monday he’s open to making a return to coaching if the opportunity is right.
“I’m ready to explore,” Clark said. “You have to be yoked with your administration equally, and that’s what I would look for. That’s what it’s got to be, it’s got to be someone that I know and I trust, and maybe there’s somebody out there that we could find a good fit. But I’m definitely gonna’ look at it.”
Clark oversaw the most successful tenure in UAB Blazers’ football history. Serving as the team’s head coach before and after the program’s temporary closure from 2015-2017, Clark returned in the same role for the 2017 season before leading the program to its best season in history in 2018, including 11 wins and a Boca Raton Bowl victory.

Following the 2021 season, Clark decided to retire due to health issues surrounding issues with his back — but not before leading the Blazers to yet another bowl win in his final game, his third time accomplishing the feat.
The 2021 Independence Bowl victory over BYU was historic for UAB in its own right, with the No. 13 ranked Cougars the highest ranking opponent that the Blazers had ever defeated in program history.
Today, Bill Clark says he’s back on the market as a coach. Full episode available this week on YouTube & Spotify.🎙️🔊
