Bech named Senior Bowl MVP just weeks after brother’s death in New Orleans attack

The Senior Bowl has produced some all-time moments over the years in Mobile, but this past Saturday may have been the best one in the entire 75-year history of the game.

Former Texas Christian University wide receiver Jack Bech caught the game-winning touchdown on the final play of the game giving his American team a 22-19 victory over the National team in one of the most exciting finishes in Senior Bowl history.

Bech’s performance with six receptions for 68 yards and the winning score earned him the game’s MVP award, a tremendous honor historically given to the best-performing quarterback. His tremendous week in the Port City has reportedly raised his stock heading into April’s NFL draft.

But it was the storyline surrounding Bech’s private life that made things so special.

Last month, tragedy struck the city of New Orleans when a New Year’s Eve terrorist attack caused the death of 14 people and injuries to numerous others.

One of those killed was Bech’s brother Tiger, a former Princeton football player. Tiger’s death came just weeks before Bech was expected to report for Senior Bowl practice in Mobile.

After the game and dramatic finish, Bech spoke to the media and emotionally declared it was his brother who gave him the strength to have the performance he did.

“My brother has some wings on me,” Bech said. “He gave them to me, and he let that all take place. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tiger, nothing else but them. They’re the reason I did what I did today. I attribute it all to them…I’m just the physical person doing it but I attribute it all to them.”
