Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle has issued a strong statement condemning the recent acts of vandalism at the Etz Chayim Synagogue in Huntsville.
“This despicable act took place on the first night of Passover, one of the most important religious times in the Jewish year,” began Battle, in a statement released Thursday.
“We seek to find those who perpetrated this crime, and I urge anyone with information about the vandalism to report it to police,” the mayor continued.
The acts of vandalism in question were perpetrated Wednesday night, according to reports from local media outlets.
Multiple swastikas were spraypainted on the exterior of the synagogue building, along with messages questing whether the Holocaust was real.
“As a City, and as an inclusive community, we stand side by side with our Jewish brothers and sisters and people of all faith,” Battle stated.
Slurs and threats of violence were included by those committing the vandalism as well, some of which were so vile that Yellowhammer News is declining to reprint them in this article.
“Any offense against one is an offense against all,” Battle concluded.
