Barry Moore: ‘We felt called to do this’ – pledges to not drop back to safe U.S. House seat if dark horse emerges

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is in it to win it when it comes to his campaign to be Alabama’s next U.S. Senator.

The Enterprise businessman and former state lawmaker has served in Congress since 2020. He launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate last month and promised to continue his support of Trump’s “America First” agenda if elected to the higher chamber.

Moore is giving up his safe pathway to re-election to Alabama’s 1st Congressional District and has jumped into his first statewide race — a competition with Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and former U.S. Navy Seal Jared Hudson.

There is also still speculation that Auburn Basketball coach Bruce Pearl might jump in the race, and there are several months of runway remaining for a potential ‘dark horse’ candidate to emerge.

Moore said he will fight for the seat until polls close.

“We felt called to do this, and we’re right where we’re supposed to be,” Moore said Wednesday on WVNN.

“And so for us, the decision is made — and we’re going to pursue and build on the on the momentum we’ve got, and I’m excited about the direction things are going. And this was not a decision we made lightly.”

Moore said he’s enjoyed representing his constituents in his district, but believes he’s making the right decision by offering himself up to serve all of Alabama’s 67 counties.

“It’s easy, often, for people to get into Congress and stay there for 30 years,” he said. “And for us, where we had District 1, you know, it was a nice district. I had the Wiregrass. I had the Gulf of America, all the way from Georgia to Mississippi, all across the southern part of the state. So for me to make this decision, it was something we felt called to do, yet it’s not something that I’m just doing — because that’s an opportunity, because I could stay where I was at forever.”

He also argued that he’s still the best candidate in the race to follow U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Auburn) lead and support President Donald Trump’s America First agenda.

“[B]ut I felt like we needed a conservative the following coaches footsteps, and we’ve always in Alabama Senate,” Moore said.

“We’ve had those kind of balances, you know, and so we’re going to continue to run, and we we are focused on one in the Senate seat, and we’re hearing great things about that.”
