U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is off to the races in the GOP field of candidates running to succeed U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) in the U.S. Senate.
Moore, who has served in Congress since 2020, launched his campaign on Tuesday and promised to continue his support of President Donald Trump and the “America First” agenda if elected to the higher chamber. Tomorrow night, he will hold an official campaign kick-off event in North Alabama.
According to a report today from The Daily Caller, Moore is already separating himself from his opponents in the contest, which include Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and former U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.
“I think I’m probably the only candidate in the race right now that hasn’t donated to Democrats recently or been a Democrat in many ways — I think it’s just my track record as a member of the House Freedom Caucus,” Moore told the Daily Caller Thursday. “I ain’t never been nothing but a Republican. I am not a weathervane politician, I just am who I am.”
President Donald Trump hasn’t endorsed anyone in the race as of yet, but Moore said he would be “honored” to get his support.
“I’ve certainly talked with him about it and I’ve gotten his endorsement in the prior races,” Moore said. “I would be honored to have his endorsement in this race. But I think for us right now, it’s more important that we support him and what he’s doing, and I’ve always done that.”
A recent poll showed that Marshall was leading the race with 24%, and Moore at 8.8%.
All three candidates have openly campaigned on supporting Trump’s “America First” agenda. Marshall supported Trump against the prosecutions against him in New York City last year and has a mountain of conservative jurisprudence to highlight in his latest statewide bid.
Moore discussed other aspects of his campaign with the Daily Caller as well, including he desire to rein in government spending.
“Sure, I’d like to zero the debt out yesterday,” he said, “but we didn’t get here overnight and you can’t zero it out overnight.”
