Barry Moore op-ed: The radical left is winning elections and Americans need to pay attention

(Barry Moore for Congress/Contributed)

For years, Americans were told that democratic socialism was a fringe ideology with no place in mainstream American politics. That argument is getting harder to make.

The Democratic Socialists of America and their allies are increasingly winning Democratic primaries and gaining influence inside the Democratic Party. The DSA has celebrated a growing number of electoral victories in 2026, including candidates running on openly socialist platforms.

This is not happening in one city or one state. Progressive candidates are winning major Democratic primaries across the country. In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic Senate primary, while in Minnesota, progressive Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won her party’s Senate nomination.

This matters because elections have consequences – just look at Massachusetts

Democrat Gov. Maura Healey recently signed a law eliminating the state’s previous 24-week gestational limit and now allows for abortions up to birth.

Think about that for a moment.

Massachusetts Democrats have decided there should be no clear statutory protection for an unborn child, even in the final stages of pregnancy.

As a Christian and a conservative, I believe every human life has value. An unborn child is not a political talking point. That child is a human life deserving of protection.

This is just one reason why the rise of the radical left should concern every American.

The same movement pushing bigger government, higher taxes and more government control over our lives is increasingly embracing some of the most extreme policies in the country.

The left has organized. They have recruited candidates. They have shown up for primaries while too many conservatives assumed these ideas could never become mainstream.

Now, more than ever, conservatives need to stand up for limited government, secure borders, strong families, the rule of law and the protection of innocent life.

The radical left is showing up at the ballot box. Conservatives must show up with a clear vision for the future of America.

That means getting involved before Election Day. It means supporting conservative candidates, turning out in Republican primaries, talking to our neighbors and communities, and refusing to assume our values will defend themselves.

We can win this fight – but only if we are willing to show up, stand together and vote.

The stakes are too high to do anything less.
