U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is defending Republicans’ election integrity bill from Democrats who are calling the legislation racist.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) is expected to come up in the Senate this week. The bill would require ID and proof of citizenship to register to vote.

Democratic Minority Leader U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y) said the legislation “is nothing more than Jim Crow 2.0. It would disenfranchise millions of Americans. Every single Senate Democrat will vote against any bill that contains it.”

Moore, who is also a candidate for the U.S. Senate, responded to the criticism Wednesday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“Well, they have to play that, that race issue, they have to play all of that stuff, because they don’t have a single policy that they can win on,” Moore said.

“They can’t win on tax cuts, they can’t win on the economy, they can’t win on inflation, they can’t win on anything. So it’s always play the race card. Call you a name, personally attack. But it’s never about really what’s best for the American people and policy. They are always playing politics, and it’s usually like I said, they’re playing some card that they. It, it’s all they’ve got left in the day.”

Moore explained that the majority of Americans support voter ID.

“The SAVE Act is so vitally important,: he said. “Honestly, if you look at the polls, and I found it astonishing, 85% of white America agrees with the SAVE Act. 82% of black Americans. I think it’s 76% of Hispanics want IDs, and they want citizens voting in this country. And so that is an 80/20 issue. I don’t know how the Democrats could defend against it.”

Moore also discussed why the SAVE Act is necessary to help secure America’s elections.

“And look, I, you know, set on Judiciary. And yesterday, we were in there, and they were talking about how 2020 ‘was the safest, most secure election in the history of the country.’ I’m going wait a minute now. So we got 139 million registered voters in America, and Biden got 81 million, and Trump got 74 million, so that’s 155 million votes. Where did the 20 million come from? And so to me, it’s like we need to know who’s voting in our elections. We got 20 million ghost voters out there. And so I think it’s good that we get IDs. I think it’s good that we make sure that they’re US citizens.”
