University of Alabama junior Mac Jones and Auburn University sophomore Bo Nix, both quarterbacks, have come out in support of the player-led #WeWantToPlay movement to save the 2020 college football season.
Prominent elected officials from across the country, including President Donald Trump, and major leaders in the college football world, including University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban, on Monday voiced their support for the movement, which was founded in part by Crimson Tide star running back Najee Harris.
In a pair of tweets, Jones outlined his thoughts.
“When we committed to play for the University of Alabama and the SEC, we trusted the process and we still do,” he said. “We believe the safest place for us is to be together playing football as a team at the University of Alabama. Trust us and let us play.”
“I trust the process; Coach Saban; and the University of Alabama; I believe playing the proposed modified season is the correct decision. Our program has implemented numerous safety protocols in concurrence with our medical staff, CDC guidelines and the NCAA, including, but not limited to, testing to help ensure the safety and well being of our coaches, staff, teammates and university. In making this decision, I do not mean to diminish the pain that this pandemic has caused everyone. Nevertheless, I am committed to playing football this season — as are the majority of my teammates. Praying for a better tomorrow,” Jones concluded.

Auburn’s starting quarterback also commented on the matter in a tweet.
“Thanks to the support of the ENTIRE Auburn administration, we are safer playing a football season,” Nix remarked. “We have worked our entire lives to get to where we are now. Don’t let it go to waste. We need football. Listen to the players. #WeWantToPlay.”
