The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office announced they had responded to a scary water-related incident involving two teenagers who were pulled offshore by a strong current.

According to a post from their Facebook page, deputies responded to the emergency by using a newly acquired USAFE remote-controlled rescue device which allowed them to reach the individuals quickly and safely to pull them back to shore without even having to enter the water.

The post called the device a “major step forward in beach safety,” reducing the overall risk to first responders while also increasing speed and effectiveness with which these rescues are carried out.

“We’re grateful for the tools that help us protect both our Deputies and the public… because out here, seconds matter,” the post said.

They also warned to never underestimate the Gulf and to always be aware of the most up-to-date water conditions.
