Seohan Auto USA Corporation announced on Monday plans to build a second manufacturing plant at Technology Park West in Auburn, Ala.

The Korean-based company builds front axles and rear carrier assemblies for several U.S. car manufacturers, and employees nearly 250 people. The new, 110,000 square foot facility will manufacture machined metal components for auto makers.

The first phase of the project is expected to create 50 new jobs by 2015, and infuse more than $16.6 million in capital investment into the Auburn area.

“The expansion will allow us to serve our new customer Mitsubishi Motors,” Seohan Auto USA Corp. president Chang-Dug Moon said. “The success of our business is due in part to Auburn’s strong workforce and the support of the City of Auburn and the State of Alabama.”

Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, echoed Moon’s statement.

“Seohan realizes what many of us have known about Auburn for years,” Hubbard said. “Auburn has a tremendous group of city, county, and state officials as well as an incredibly hard working economic development team. Working together we have seen great success in recruiting new businesses as well as expanding existing ones.”

“We knew that Seohan would be an excellent partner to Auburn,” the city’s mayor Bill Hamm, Jr. added. “Companies have many options to locate their investments, and we are proud and grateful that Seohan continues to trust Auburn.”
