  • 2 jailed after 17 cats, 4 dogs found in van in Mobile

    Excerpt from AL.com:

A man and woman were charged with 21 counts each of second-degree animal cruelty after police found 17 cats and four dogs in their car during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon, according to Mobile police.

Police stopped a Chrysler van driving near Theodore Dawes Road and Old Pascagoula Road just before 1 p.m. Saturday, police said. The driver, 40-year-old Bruce Stiles, did not have his driver’s license, police said.

Tonya Pamplin, 42, another woman and 17 cats and four dogs were also in the van, police said.

Police said the van was “overrun” with roaches, other pests and a large amount of refuse and cat litter.

  • More Americans watched the royal wedding than the Alabama-Georgia national title game

    Excerpt from WSFA:

Nielsen reported 29.2 million Americans tuned in to 15 channels to catch a glimpse of the American actress marrying Europe’s most popular prince.

Numbers in the United Kingdom were about 18 million. That’s down from the 24 million Britons who watched the last royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011, according to CNN. The audience in the United States was only 23 million.

With an extra 6 million viewers, there’s no question the new Duchess of Sussex spiked American interest this time around.

But how does her wedding compare to TV ratings for other major events?

It did not surpass Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in 2017, although it came noticeably close. Trump had a TV audience of 30.6 million.

And the NFL’s super bowl still sits far above the rest of the field with 103.4 million viewers in 2018.

Even so, the royal wedding topped these major TV events of the last year:

    — 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship – Alabama vs. Georgia – 16.7 million
    — 2018 Men’s basketball national championship game – Villanova vs. Michigan – 16.5 million

  • Rabid fox bites two people at Fairhope golf course

    Excerpt from WKRG:

Fairhope Police say two people were bitten by a rabid fox at the Rock Creek Golf Club.

The first person was bitten Sunday while playing golf. When he got out of his cart the red fox ran up and bit his leg. The golfer went to the hospital for treatment.

On Monday morning, police say the fox bit another person. A member of the course’s ground crew saw the animal and another person was bitten in the leg trying to catch it. Fairhope Animal Control came and to the scene and took the fox away. According to a press release, “it was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for testing, and it tested positive for rabies.  The persons bitten have been notified to seek appropriate treatment.”

Fairhope Police are asking the public to report any strange behavior in animals. Foxes are reclusive and are rarely seen during the day, the department says. They also avoid human contact.

(Video above: “This is Alabama”)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Yellowhammer Multimedia on Monday announced the company’s Alabama-focused online publication Yellowhammer News received over three million unique visitors in June, a new record for the rapidly-growing site.

“Our team is committed to delivering engaging and informative content that reflects Alabamians’ interests and values,” said Yellowhammer Multimedia Chief Operations Officer Ryan Boggus. “As a result, Alabamians continue to flock to Yellowhammer News in greater numbers month after month.”

Yellowhammer Multimedia also announced its terrestrial radio program, which launched less than three months ago, is already expanding. Yellowhammer Radio with Cliff Sims currently airs in central and north Alabama, including the Birmingham and Huntsville metro areas, on the largest FM talk radio signal in the state, the 100,000-watt Superstation 101.1 WYDE.

“When we launched Yellowhammer Radio, we knew fans would want more than one hour per day,” said WYDE station manager Leland Whaley. “Sure enough, the demand from listeners for a two hour show happened in short order, and we are excited to give our listeners what they want. Yellowhammer Radio’s new lead-in will be from 20-year news veteran Andrea Lindenberg. With these new additions to our existing lineup of The Guys, Michael Hart and my show, WYDE now has the most experienced and connected local news talk hosts in Alabama.”

Yellowhammer Radio will now air 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday on WYDE, and expects to announce its expansion into other Alabama markets soon.

Yellowhammer Radio host Cliff Sims is the CEO of Yellowhammer Multimedia and Editor-in-Chief of Yellowhammer News. His articles and opinions have been featured in local and national publications including The Daily Caller, Politico, The Huffington Post, TheBlaze, and Fox News. He made his national radio debut earlier this year as the guest host of the nationally-syndicated Laura Ingraham Show.

“People have had their fill of stuffy, rubber chicken political dinners,” explained Yellowhammer Multimedia CEO Cliff Sims. “We’re excited to offer a fresh take on what these types of events can look and feel like. Inviting Act of Congress to be our musical guest is part of that effort. We are confident they will help make our inaugural Power of Service reception the can’t-miss political and business event of the summer.”

Act of Congress is consistently voted one of the “must see live acts of Alabama.” The band has performed throughout the US and in countries including Thailand, Oman, Palau, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Philippines, Timor Leste, and Bali. They recently returned from their third tour as U.S. Cultural Ambassadors, led by the U.S. State Department. Dave Higgs of NPR calls AOC “one of the freshest sounding, exuberant bands in all of the known acoustic universe.”

AOC has performed for the likes of Paste, SXSW, Disney, NPR and Billboard. They have opened Live Nation VIP areas for John Mayer and Edwin McCain, and backed up country music star Sara Evans and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks. The band performed two acclaimed concerts at Regions Field backed by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

Also taking the stage at Yellowhammer’s Power of Service event will be renowned meteorologist and Alabama icon James Spann, who will be the event’s emcee.

“The state of Alabama is very special to me, and I am thankful for the hard working men and women that will be honored during this event,” said Spann. “They have gone above and beyond to make our state a better place to work and live. I am looking forward to it.”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Yellowhammer Multimedia CEO Cliff Sims announced on Wednesday that the company’s content brand, Yellowhammer News, is on pace to average approximately 2 million unique visitors in the fourth quarter of 2014, and now has over 100,000 subscribers to its daily email blast.

“The remarkable growth we are experiencing can be attributed to the hard work of our small but growing team,” said Sims. “Our staff is relentlessly committed to delivering the most up-to-date and relevant news and information on issues that impact Alabamians, whether it’s related to politics, business, sports, faith or culture. Our goal has always been to reflect the values of our readers. The more we’ve done that, the more people around the state have turned to Yellowhammer as their most trusted source of daily news and information.”

Sims said one of the most remarkable statistics in the site’s 4th quarter of 2014 numbers is that it reached millions of readers while publishing a relatively small number of articles.

“Yellowhammer has published less than 400 articles this quarter, but the reach of each post has been significant,” he said. “It’s important for people to know that when they click a Yellowhammer link, it’s going to be high quality journalism, and probably something they’ll want to share with their friends. We have plans to drastically increase the volume and diversify the type of content that we’re producing, but we’re always going to maintain that level of quality.”

In 2014, Yellowhammer News and its writers have been featured on Fox News, Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports, The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Daily Mail, The Drudge Report, CNN, The Daily Caller, The Huffington Post, Breitbart News, the Laura Ingraham Show and numerous other national and international media outlets.

Yellowhammer launches ‘authentic Alabama’ clothing and product line

Yellowhammer Supply Co Polo

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Yellowhammer Multimedia CEO Cliff Sims announced on Monday that the company is launching a branded product and clothing line called Yellowhammer Supply Co., coming alongside its highly successful content brand, Yellowhammer News.

“Yellowhammer is about all things Alabama,” Sims explained. “This quarter, roughly two million people per month have visited Yellowhammer News to get the latest news and analysis on Alabama politics, sports, business, faith and culture. We share our users’ values and, as a result, have built a unique connection and trust with people all over the state and around the country. We believe that relationship will translate into a lot of excitement about Yellowhammer branded products, which we’re pleased to offer in time for the Christmas season. This is an authentic Alabama brand that represents the pride Alabamians have in our state and the way we present ourselves.”

Yellowhammer Supply Co. officially launched Dec. 1, 2014 with an initial product line that includes a variety of high-end polos, soft-shell vests, t-shirts, hats and iPhone cases. An expanded line is expected to follow in the first quarter of 2015.

Yellowhammer Multimedia COO Ryan Boggus, who has spearheaded the Supply Company’s launch, said the product line has been in the works for months, but wasn’t rolled out until they were confident the quality met the company’s rigorous standards.

“We sought out the best manufacturers — the people who are behind the clothing brands we wear and love — and brought them in to help us do this right,” said Boggus. “If a product has the Yellowhammer branding on it, you can be assured that it’s going to be high quality, it’s going to stand the test of time, and you’re going to look great.”

Sims said that launching the clothing line is the type of outside-the-box thinking he hopes will define Yellowhammer’s evolution. The company has added seven new people to its staff and has more growth mapped out for 2015.

“We’re entrepreneurs at heart. The Supply Co. was an idea that we were intent on turning into a reality, but it’s just the beginning of where we’re planning to go,” he said. “There’s a spirit of hard work and determination that’s engrained in the character of Americans, and Alabamians in particular. We want that to be reflected in our brand as we continue to expand into new — and sometimes surprising — directions.”

Yellowhammer Supply Co. products are currently available on YellowhammerSupply.com and are guaranteed to ship and arrive ahead of Christmas. A sampling of some of the products can be found below.

Yellowhammer named State Blog of the Year at CPAC

blogbash2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yellowhammer News, Alabama’s leading source of news and political commentary, was named State Blog of the Year at BlogBash on the first night of the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

“This is an incredible honor for our company,” said Yellowhammer News CEO Cliff Sims. “It’s exciting to see our reach and influence continue to spread, even outside of Alabama. But the most humbling part about winning this award is that it was voted on by a panel of our peers. These folks have been on the forefront of the digital media revolution for a long time. For them to acknowledge the work Yellowhammer is doing like this is more than we could have ever hoped for.”

BlogBash has become a star-studded event in recent years as the influence of digital media outlets has grown exponentially. Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers were just three of the notable speakers during this year’s BlogBash, which has dubbed itself “The largest gathering of right-of-center bloggers and online opinion leaders.”

A who’s who of national political groups, companies, and politicians sponsored the event, including Americans for Prosperity, Americans for Tax Reform, Franklin Center for Government & Public Integrity, Facebook, National Review, The Republican National Committee, True the Vote and many others.

CPAC has attracted 11,000 attendees to National Harbor this week and features speeches by numerous potential 2016 Republican presidential contenders. Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, Rep. Paul Ryan and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie all delivered speeches on just the first day of the 3-day event.
