The Auburn Tigers made a very notable headline this week with regards to their starting quarterback on Saturday against Mercer.
Earlier in the week, news broke that they were going to sit Ashton Daniels — who has been starting the last couple of weeks — in order to preserve his redshirt and save his eligibility for next season, but that left the question of who was actually going to start.
With the only two choices really being the starter from the start of the year Jackson Arnold and high profile freshman Deuce Knight, Auburn is going to see what they have in the youngster according to an announcement from DJ Durkin.
“Both [Knight and Arnold] have played well, they’re both gonna play in the game, we’re gonna go with Deuce as the starter,” Durkin said. “He’s earned it. Done a great job. We’re excited to see him go play.”
Knight has thrown just five passes so far on the season, completing two of them for 20 yards in an early season victory over Ball State. Coming out of high school, he was a five-star prospect and the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Mississippi as well as a top-five quarterback before committing to Auburn.
A tall left-handed big-armed prospect, Knight brings an exciting brand of football to The Plains and is expected — should the next coach be able to hang onto him — to be the potential future of the program.
This week though, the future is now and Tiger fans should see quite the show in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
