Auburn Tigers license plates outnumber Crimson Tide in eight Alabama counties

(YHN)

The Yellowhammer State loves its college football more than anything else, and the rivalry between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers is a massive part of what makes this state so special.

Drivers around Alabama frequently display which team their allegiances lie with a custom license plate, each of which are available at statewide license commissions. In a fascinating look at trends, AL(dot)com dove into which counties there might just be more Tiger than Tide fans, and the results were a bit surprising.

All tolled, there were 121,114 Alabama plates compared to 85,709 Auburn plates according to data from the Alabama Department of Revenue. There were eight counties in total out of 67 across the state where there seems to be more Tigers loyalty.

In Lee County, Auburn claimed 14,575 sales to just 2,150 for the Tide, the biggest gap by far where the rest were largely razor thin. Tallapoosa County saw the Tigers outnumber Alabama 1,926 to 1,040, with gaps beyond that getting even smaller. In Montgomery County, it was 3,751 to 3,478.

Chambers County saw 978 against 722 while Elmore County had 2,220 Auburn plates to 2,082 Alabama ones.

Beyond that, the gap dropped into the double digits with Henry County seeing 658 Tigers plates and 593 Alabama plates, while Randolph County had 455 for Auburn and 423 for the Crimson Tide.

The most hotly contested area was Clay County, which had a gap of just 17 plates with 247 against 230.

Clearly, fans care greatly about repping their team, and now Alabama fans know which places not to relocate to if they want to keep their majority.
