Auburn stars Jackson Arnold, Cam Coleman named to Maxwell Award watch list

The Auburn Tigers are hoping to ignite some new life this season in the third year under Hugh Freeze with by far the best roster they’ve had in a long time.

If they are going to be able to do that and at the minimum secure their first winning season in five years, Freeze is going to have to have the best offense and passing game that he has had yet on The Plains.

Perhaps the two most important players who can help make that happen this season were named to the watch list for the 89th Maxwell Award, given annually to the most outstanding player in college football, usually on the offensive side of the ball.

New transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold along with rising sophomore star wide receiver Cam Coleman were each named to the list, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.

Arnold transferred over from Oklahoma after things did not quite work out between him and the Sooners, which resulted in him being benched during the season.

Coleman on the other hand comes back following a freshman season in which he started to break out — and is expected by many to be one of the better receivers in the conference this year.

After catching eight touchdowns as a freshman, Coleman will try to top that number this year, and he’s going to have a new quarterback throwing him the football.

And according to the Maxwell Football Club, it’s a pretty special gunslinger for Coleman in Arnold.
