Auburn sets fall enrollment record, reports largest first-year class

For Auburn University, it has been yet another year of record student growth.

In fact, for the fifth year in a row, Auburn has set a record not only for its highest enrollment ever of 33,000, but it also recorded its largest freshman class – 5,935 students.

Auburn University President Christopher B. Roberts discussed why he thinks enrollment size at the school continues to grow.

“Auburn’s latest enrollment numbers reflect our investment in fostering an exceptional student experience that emphasizes high academic quality, relevant career readiness and impactful service,” Roberts said. “The continuing demand for an Auburn education is attributed to our efforts to offer innovative academic and co-curricular programs that are delivered by our remarkable faculty and staff.”

According to the Office of Institutional Research, the growth in total enrollment of 1,251 students represented a 4% increase from fall 2022. The office also found that a record 26,874 undergraduate students enrolled for the fall semester, a 6% increase over fall 2022.

Largely bolstered by a freshmen class of 5,935, the numbers include more than 1,200 transfer students, an increase of 9% from last fall. With resident enrollment remaining at 63%.

Auburn also said that it experienced its largest increase ever in first year student applications during the 2023 cycle.

The record comes as the school increased its national and public university rankings in U.S. News and World Report’s “2024 Best Colleges” list. In the latest report from the publication, Auburn went up in the rankings four positions to No. 93 among national universities and held its position in the top 50 public universities at No. 47.
