Auburn recruiting takes major hit for 2026 as three players decommit

The Auburn Tigers and Head Coach Hugh Freeze have faced serious difficulties on the recruiting trail over the past week.

In an era of collegiate sports where committing means less than it ever did, players decommit and recommit as often as they change their socks.

The latest victim of the changes has been Freeze’s Tigers, who saw three commits from next year’s class either decommit or flip to another school entirely.

Gulf Shores native JaMichael Garrett, a four-star linebacker, decommitted from the class a couple of weeks ago followed by Mobile native Shadarius Toodle, who flipped to Georgia over the weekend.

As if that wasn’t enough, four-star wide receiver Devin Carter also flipped and is now heading to Florida State.

Though there are months until pen is put to paper, the Tigers have fallen outside the top 80 in terms of recruiting rankings.

Auburn is not a lost cause, but Hugh Freeze will need to earn big wins this fall on the field and while recruiting in order to get the momentum back rolling.
