Auburn offers son of kick-six legend, 2028 running back Chris ‘CJ’ Davis

The Auburn Tigers made a future offer that will make its fans both smile and feel old at the same time. Chris “CJ” Davis, a class of 2028 running back from in-state Hewitt-Trussville, is heading into just his freshman year of high school, but is already 5 foot 9 and 165 pounds.

Just the name of Davis’ father Chris evokes unbelievable memories for Auburn fans and nightmare flashbacks for Alabama fans.

Famously, Davis was the man responsible for the Kick-Six, when Auburn defeated Alabama on the final play of the 2013 Iron Bowl by returning a long field goal attempt that was left short by Tide kicker Adam Griffith.

The play had ripple effects as well, with Auburn ending Alabama’s chase for a three-peat, advancing to the SEC Championship and defeating Missouri to earn the right to play for a national championship, and helped Gus Malzahn complete one of the biggest year to year turnarounds in the history of the support in just his first season coaching Auburn.

The year prior was a bottoming out of the Gene Chizik era, with the Tigers going winless in the SEC for just the third time in program history.

It’s a lot for the younger Davis to live up to, who has also been offered by Arkansas and Florida State. Ironically, the first offer he received was from his father’s old coach in Gus Malzahn at UCF.

Time will tell if Davis decides to carry on his father’s legacy on The Plains.
