Auburn heads to Final Four – Alabama eliminated by Duke in Elite Eight blowout

The Auburn Tigers are headed back to the Final Four for just the second time in program history and first since 2019 after largely dominating their way through the South region and closing it out with a 70-64 victory in the Elite Eight to lock up their trip to San Antonio.

After both Auburn and the Alabama Crimson Tide made history by each making the Elite Eight in the same year for the first time in history, Alabama was not able to hold up their end of the bargain in an 85-65 loss to the Duke Blue Devils who looked like every bit of the best team in the country.

The Tide struggled to replicate their ridiculous shooting effort in the Sweet Sixteen against Duke and ultimately just ran into a team who was much better than them.

The Tigers will head to San Antonio with a terrific chance to win it all after phenomenal performances over the last four games.

Against Michigan State, Johni Broome had his best game of the tournament with 25 points and 14 rebounds, making a dramatic return from injury late in the game to hit a three pointer which effectively put the game on ice:

In the 78-65 Sweet Sixteen victory on Friday night over Michigan, it was Broome along with guards Denver Jones and Tahaad Pettiford posting ridiculous efforts after Auburn trailed by nine in the second half on a 20-2 run which ultimately made the difference in the game.

The Tigers now will face the other SEC team in the Final Four with the Florida Gators winning a thriller over Texas Tech to win their region.

Florida won the only matchup between the two this season with a 90-81 victory on The Plains in early February.

Each team has earned their way here and it should be a tremendous showdown with a spot in the national title game on the line.
