Auburn football ranks highly on On3’s portal ranking list

There’s still a lot to work through this offseason, but the Auburn Tigers have been fairly successful in acquiring talent and improving from this season’s bitterly disappointing 5-7 record.

In their ‘early portal winners’ rankings list, On3 rated Auburn as No. 4, given the additions that Hugh Freeze has made thus far:

When it comes to improvement, the Tigers needed to overhaul the quarterback room, and they did exactly that. Freeze brought in not only a projected starter in former Oklahoma Sooner Jackson Arnold but also a likely backup in Ashton Daniels of Stanford. Freshman Deuce Knight will factor in but likely begin spring as the No. 3.

As for some receivers for a new quarterback to throw to along with Cam Coleman, the Tigers have done well in that department. Eric Singleton Jr. of Georgia Tech was among the most sought-after pass catchers in the portal before committing to Auburn, along with a new tight end in Preston Howard of Maryland and Horatio Fields of Wake Forest.

Auburn also landed a kicker in Connor Gibbs, who is coming off a tough season in that area, and a new punter in Hudson Kaak.

There are some promising new defenders as well, with Xavier Atkins coming over from LSU at the linebacker position, as well as cornerback Raion Strader of Miami (OH).

It’s shaping up to be a completely new-look Auburn team led by a portal class that’s already ranked within the top five in the country and could rise even further as the winter continues to play out.
