The Birmingham Amphitheater hasn’t even been built yet, but the Magic City is already buzzing with excitement over the new venue.
On Monday, a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was held by the owner of the venue, the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC). Michael Keel, Chairman of the BJCC, spoke at the event.
“This new facility will be a tremendous complement to the BJCC’s existing entertainment options, which already includes Protective Stadium, Legacy Arena, the BJCC Concert Hall, City Walk Bham and multiple other smaller venues,” said Keel.
State Sen. Jabo Waggoner (R-Vestavia Hills), who represents the district where the amphitheater is located, also delivered remarks.
“Another exciting day in the history of Birmingham! It takes a village,” said Waggoner. “The City of Birmingham, Jefferson County, the State of Alabama Department of Tourism, the BJCC, the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Live Nation and more all worked together to make this happen.”
“This is a game changer for our community.”

Mayor Randall Woodfin expressed hope that the facility will increase the quality of life across the board in Birmingham.
“As excited as we all will be to have a new place to see concerts, I’m most excited about what this will do for all of our Northside neighborhoods,” Woodfin said. “This will be an anchor that will spur other developments that will improve the quality of life for residents in the area and for the city as a whole.”
The Birmingham Amphitheater is scheduled to open in June of 2025. It will create up to 300 jobs and be managed by entertainment giant Live Nation. It is expected to accommodate up to 9,380 attendees at one time and host around 20 shows during the summer.
The venue is near the the site of the former Caraway Hospital in Druid Hills.
