Another Alabama coach leaves while Kiffin remains on the prowl for recruits

In the continued brain drain of the Alabama coaching staff, team director of player personnel Tyler Siskey is expected to become an assistant coach at South Alabama.

According to BamaOnline, Siskey is joining USA head coach Joey Jones as the team’s wide receivers coach. This will be a transition back onto the field for Siskey, who has been a receivers coach before, coaching the position at Arkansas State from 2008-2011.

Siskey is perhaps best known to casual fans for being accused of stealing signs for Alabama in its 2013 victory over Ole Miss. He served as the Rebels’ coordinator of recruiting development for one season, during which Ole Miss had one of its most successful recruiting classes.

Even during the tailgate for this season’s Ole Miss-Alabama game last season, the fans had not forgotten the accusation.

Speaking of coaches rumored to be leaving, Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin was back out on the recruiting trail Tuesday. Kiffin is visiting St. Petersburg, Fla. wide receiver Ryan Davis, who is scheduled to take an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 23.

Kiffin was said to be a “front-runner” for the vacant San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator position, but no clarification has been given on that report. Kiffin remains on the prowl for recruits, which seems like the behavior of a coach that isn’t leaving.

With Siskey’s departure and Kiffin’s future still hypothetically in flux, this offseason has already been a tumultuous time for the Alabama coaching staff. It will now have three vacancies left to be filled as National Signing Day on Feb. 5 inches closer.
