Americans for Prosperity urging support for Trump tax cuts to ‘protect Alabama families from tax hikes’

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) will soon be kicking off an all-out, 50-state ad blitz to help convince elected officials in Washington D.C. not to raise taxes on millions of Americans as they begin the 119th Congress.

The group said that its $20 million ad campaign will specifically push lawmakers to renew the successful Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The campaign is part of the organization’s Protect Prosperity initiative.

“This year, Congress is facing a countdown to a crisis that threatens family budgets nationwide,” said AFP-AL State Director, Adam Thompson. “If Congress fails to renew the TCJA, Alabamians will be left paying over $2,127 more in taxes. Along with increasing the burden of inflation on working families, the expiration of these tax cuts would cripple local businesses with a $778 tax increase and ultimately cost over 9,129 jobs.”

The legislation, according to Thomspon, will play a crucial role in “reigniting” the American Dream.

“We need to start with protecting the progress we made with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, as well as expand on pro-growth tax policy that will jump-start the economy and get more Alabamians back to work. We are proud to partner with the incoming Trump Administration to protect prosperity and ensure that Congress acts before millions of Alabamians face crippling increases in their tax bills.”

According to Americans for Prosperity,  the campaign will “elevate the voices of Members of Congress supportive of pro-growth tax cuts and hold accountable members who do not support this agenda, with the goal of extending and building on tax relief for American families and businesses.”

Additionally, the organization will be conducting over 1,000 meetings with Congressional offices on Capitol Hill, holding in-district events with activists and Members of Congress, roundtables with job creators, and sharing testimonials from American families and businesses who would suffer if Congress chooses not to renew the tax cuts.

The campaign is the largest current effort by a conservative organization to support President  Trump’s second-term legislative agenda.
