Allen West, the smashmouth former Florida congressman, heads to New Hampshire Friday night for a Nashua GOP dinner.
Not every visit to the Granite State is created equal through the 2016 lens, of course.
It’s advantageous for West or any other ambitious pol to leave the door open to a presidential run, but actually going through with it is a completely different matter.
“I wouldn’t want to speak for him,” said Nashua Republican City Committee chairman Andrew Cernota. ”Sometimes our state is just a good place for those who might want to influence the debate.”
Cernota said his committee has sold about 160 tickets for West’s appearance — a solid, if far from record-breaking number for Nashua.
But he stressed that the Nashua GOP reached out to West to visit — not the other way around, a small clue about West’s true ambitions.
“He was going to be in the [northeast] area and we had been trying to get him for awhile, so it worked out,” Cernota said.
Next Friday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz headlines a “summer backyard party” in Dublin, NH.
