The Alabama Republican Party has officially postponed its 2025 Summer Dinner, originally scheduled for August 1, in Montgomery after Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley — slated to be the event’s keynote speaker — received President Donald Trump’s endorsement for a run in North Carolina’s 2026 U.S. Senate race.
In a statement over the weekend, ALGOP Chairman John Wahl said Whatley’s bid will affect the scheduling of the dinner and announced it will be postponed. He also congratulated Whatley on hitting the campaign trail.
“This is an exciting moment for our Party and the nation,” Wahl said. “Chairman Whatley is a strong conservative leader, and we fully support him as he considers stepping into one of the most important races in the country. President Trump’s endorsement has understandably reshaped Chairman Whatley’s immediate schedule and travel obligations, and we want to make sure he is able to concentrate on making this important decision.”
“We recognize that preserving a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate is critical to the future of our country, and that must remain our highest priority.”
Whatley served as chair of the North Carolina GOP from 2019 until March 2024 and later became RNC general counsel before assuming full RNC leadership.
According to ALGOP, the party is actively working to reschedule the Summer Dinner and will release updated details as soon as they are confirmed. All purchased tickets and sponsorships will be refunded or honored for the rescheduled event.
“We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our members and grassroots supporters,” Chairman Wahl added. “Together, we are building momentum to elect strong conservative leaders and defend our values—both here in Alabama and across the nation.”
