ALGOP chairman Wahl’s message to Biden: ‘Let us protect our children’

Last week Governor Kay Ivey signed the “Alabama Vulnerable Child Act,” which bans the prescription of puberty inhibitors and also gender-altering procedures for minors.

The Biden administration blasted the Alabama Legislature for passing the bill and threatened to have the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services look into the constitutionality of the law.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said last week in response to the bill, “Today in Alabama, instead of focusing on critical kitchen table issues like the economy, COVID or addressing the country’s mental health crisis, Republican lawmakers are currently debating legislation that, among many things, would target trans youth with tactics that threaten to put pediatricians in prison if they provide medically necessary lifesaving health care for the kids they serve.”

Alabama Republican Party chairman John Wahl joined WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program” Tuesday to react to the Biden administration’s threats.

“[M]y response to the Biden administration,” Wahl said, “well, respect the 10th Amendment to the United States Constitution and by all means keep your nose out of our business. You don’t belong here. You were not elected to represent the people in the State House, the State Senate. Our representatives did their job and let us protect our children. That’s not the federal government’s role.”

Wahl also responded to Psaki’s criticism of Republicans not focusing on the real issues.

“This is a family table issue,” he argued. “What is more important to us than our children? She assumes that are children aren’t important, aren’t an important issue.”

He also argued that Psaki’s logic made no sense when it came to what’s best for children in the Yellowhammer state.

“And I think if you’re going to use her line of reasoning,” he continued, “you’re going to have to say, ‘OK, we need to let children smoke, we need to let them drink, we need to let them buy firearms.’ I mean, the Democrats would faint if you said, ‘Hey, my child would like to buy a firearm,’ and they would think that is terrible, and yet they think they can change their gender?”

Wahl said he believed Biden was abusing his authority on this and other issues.

“I know this, the federal government’s job is not to regulate the states in areas that are not mentioned in the Constitution,” he explained, “and that is what the Biden administration is doing, through their policies, through their strong-arm tactics, through their executive orders, and I don’t appreciate it. They need to stay out of our business.”
