Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl believes it’s vital for the future of the Party to reach out to young voters in Generation Z.
Wahl is putting young conservatives at the center of the political conversation, emphasizing that young Alabamians must play a central role in shaping the state’s political future.
He discussed the issue during a recent appearance on the Alabama Student Eagles podcast with Brady Johnson and Jill Blocher.
“Young conservatives are not the future of the Republican Party — they are the present,” Wahl said. “We’re watching a major shift happen in the political landscape. More young voters are backing President Trump, more students are embracing conservative ideas, and they’re doing it because they’re fed up with being told that young people automatically belong to the left. This generation is rejecting that pressure.”

“They want freedom, opportunity, and a real voice in shaping their own future,” Wahl continued. “We’ve seen the strength of this movement in the leadership and influence of Charlie Kirk, whose work has energized students nationwide and built a powerful legacy of young conservative activism. His example proves just how hungry this generation is to step up, lead, and make a difference.”
Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA and became well known for holding political debates on college campuses, was killed by an assassin’s bullet during an outdoor event Wednesday on Utah Valley University’s campus.
Wahl also believes his party will be missing a real opportunity if they don’t work more at engaging the younger generation.
“Gen Z are looking for authenticity and real purpose,” he explained. “When we talk with students, we find strong support for freedom, limited government, and the right to chart their own path in life. Our responsibility as a Party is to open doors for them, give them real opportunities, and show them they have a home and a voice in the Republican movement.”
The ALGOP Chairman also also praised the work of the Student Eagles organization.
“Groups like the Alabama Student Eagles are developing leaders and giving students the tools they need to serve their communities and uphold the conservative principles that make Alabama strong,” he said. “Their impact is already being felt statewide.”
Student Eagles gives students opportunities to meet monthly to discuss current events and legislation, learn leadership and debate skills, and intern with legislators during the Alabama legislative session.
