The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has opened an officer-involved shooting investigation after a suspect was killed and an ALEA SWAT special agent was shot Wednesday evening during a Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit enforcement operation in west Montgomery.
On Thursday afternoon, Governor Ivey reported the agent, “is doing well and expected to make a full recovery.”
“We continue to pray for his healing, as well as for his family and fellow law enforcement officers,” Ivey wrote. “God bless the men and women who wear the badge!”
In a news release, ALEA confirmed the agent is expected to make a full recovery.
ALEA said MACS officers received an advisory from the Montgomery Police Department regarding a suspect wanted for first-degree robbery.
At approximately 5:51 p.m. on Feb. 11, 2026, officers attempted to stop a vehicle the suspect was riding in near the 4000 block of Longleaf Drive, but the vehicle failed to stop and a brief pursuit followed, according to authorities.
Investigators said the suspect exited the vehicle with a firearm and ran into a nearby shed.
ALEA identified the suspect as Jadarrian O’Neal Clemons, 25, of Montgomery, and said he fired at officers, who returned fire. Clemons was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
During the incident, an ALEA special agent assigned to the agency’s SWAT Team, assisting the MACS Unit, was struck by gunfire multiple times and transported to a local hospital.
