Alabama women’s basketball sets program record with three WNBA draft selections

The University of Alabama women’s basketball program achieved a historic milestone Monday night, as three Crimson Tide players were selected in the 2025 WNBA Draft — the most in school history.

The selections marked the ninth, 10th, and 11th WNBA draft picks in program history and the first time Alabama has produced multiple draftees in a single year.

Headlining the group was star guard Sarah Ashlee Barker, taken ninth overall by the Los Angeles Sparks. Barker finished her five-year career in Tuscaloosa with 1,642 points and became just the fifth player in program history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 250 assists.

A two-time First Team All-SEC selection in 2024 and 2025, Barker ended her Tide career with a legendary 45-point performance in an overtime NCAA Tournament loss to Maryland — the fourth-most points ever scored in a single NCAA women’s tournament game.

Aaliyah Nye followed closely behind, selected No. 13 overall by the Las Vegas Aces. One of the most prolific scorers in Alabama history, Nye tallied 1,739 points over five seasons and averaged 15.2 points per game.

Known for her sharp-shooting from long range, she broke her own program record for three-pointers made in a single season with 111 — eclipsing the 108 she hit the year prior. Her 293 career threes stand as the most in Crimson Tide history.

Rounding out the trio was Zaay Green, selected 32nd overall by the Washington Mystics. Green led Alabama in total points this past season after transferring in for her final year of eligibility. She scored 1,796 points across six collegiate seasons and made an immediate impact in Tuscaloosa with her scoring prowess and leadership.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Sarah Ashlee, Aaliyah and Zaay,” head coach Kristy Curry said in a statement from the school about her players being drafted.

“Each of their basketball journeys are uniquely inspiring and a true reflection of their character, relentless work ethic and their team-first mindset. At Alabama, we often say ‘Built by Bama’—but these three brought something even more powerful: unwavering belief and a will to win that set them apart. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for each of them!”
