A U.S. Ambassador called and apologized to an Alabama woman after she claimed that she was attacked by a knife-wielding man in Belgium.
U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, Bill White, called Amanda Hardy Saturday and apologized on behalf of President Donald Trump.
“Today I received a phone call from the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, Bill White,” Hardy said on Facebook. “He listened, apologized on behalf of the Embassy and on behalf of the President, and he took immediate action to change policies at the Belgium Embassy so that no other American family is left in that position. We could not have asked for more.”
Hardy was with another Alabama mother and their two 12-year old daughters when a man with a knife approached them on a train in Brussels, asked if they were American and if they liked ICE. She then took video of them being chased off the train by the individual.
“I also spoke with Tommy Tuberville’s office today – his staff is wonderful,” Hardy continued on her Facebook post Saturday. “Deanna has taken the time to listen and his office took actions to demand accountability so that our concerns were not dismissed or overlooked. For that I will always be grateful. We still have a lot of work to do – but today we saw progress.”
Hardy recently told WSFA that she wants things to change for Americans visiting the country.
“There needs to be a review and change of emergency protocol when children are involved,” she said. “We cannot abandon children in a foreign country when someone attempts to kill them because they’re American. We have to do better.”
