A Dadeville woman has been arrested after Tallapoosa County deputies discovered more than 90 cats living in dangerous and neglected conditions.
The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office responded earlier this week to a call about abandoned animals on Centerport Road. When deputies arrived, they found 92 cats that investigators say had no access to food, water, or litter boxes, WAKA reported.
Many of the animals were also left outdoors in freezing temperatures.
Sheriff Jimmy Abbett told the news outlet that 58-year-old Lisa Christine Miller has been charged with animal cruelty in connection with the case.
According to the report, New Hope Rescue was contacted to assist with the situation and coordinated with Angie’s Dog House in Foley. Together, the groups removed the animals from the property and transported all 92 cats to Foley, where they are now receiving care.
As the rescued animals begin receiving medical attention, Angie’s Dog House, the Foley-based rescue now housing all 92 cats — is asking for the public’s help. In a post on its Facebook page, the organization launched a “$5 Friday” effort where a small donation covers the cost of vaccinating one rescued cat.
