Alabama signee Keelon Russell named Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas

The potential future quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide has received a massive honor this week just days after putting pen to paper on his letter of intent to head to Tuscaloosa and play for Kalen DeBoer.

Gatorade announced that Russell of Duncanville High School has received the prestigious honor of being named 2024-25 Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year. Despite the powerhouse status of Duncanville, Russell is actually the first player in the school’s history to win the award.

Previous winners of the award in other states include NFL Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith and Peyton Manning as well as Alabama freshman sensation wide receiver Ryan Williams and Florida star freshman quarterback DJ Lagway.

Russell put up absolute video game numbers in 2024 for the Duncanville Panthers, throwing for over 3,600 yards and a ridiculous 52 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions.

According to the news release, Russell is also a member of Duncanville’s National Honor Society and has volunteered locally with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

Arriving to campus at Alabama likely this spring, Russell will look to establish himself as the future of Alabama football.
