Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences expands statewide recruitment with virtual information sessions

The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences is broadening its statewide recruitment push for the first freshman class with an added opportunity for Alabama families: Live, virtual information (Zoom) sessions that begin next week.

Since early fall, the ASHS leadership team has logged thousands of miles around the state meeting students and parents to share how the school, opening next August, will connect high school learning directly to in-demand healthcare careers, to strengthen the workforce pipeline and bolster healthcare equity.

i“We’ve met students with a calling to serve, impressive young people who already know they want to make a difference in healthcare,” said Dr. Jimmy Martin, ASHS president and CEO. “Adding virtual sessions ensures every student in Alabama, no matter where they live, can be part of this conversation.”

The Zoom sessions are designed to make it possible for parents and eighth-grade students  to learn about ASHS, Alabama’s newest public residential specialty high school, under construction in Demopolis.

The Zoom sessions are:

  • Nov. 18 at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Dec. 10 at noon
  • Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

At in-person and Zoom sessions, ASHS officials will discuss:

  • A curriculum built through a healthcare lens, linking every subject to real-world applications;
  • Hands-on clinical experiences through partnerships with Whitfield Regional Hospital and other educational and medical institutions;
  • Opportunities to earn certifications and college credit while in high school;
  • A residential model that brings together students from every region of Alabama to live, learn, and lead together.

The full in-person recruitment calendar is available here.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for motivated students who are already imagining their futures,” Martin said. “We’re helping them take their first steps toward careers that matter — to their communities, to our state, and to the lives they’ll touch through healthcare.”

Applications are open now online at alhealthcarehs.org by clicking the APPLY NOW button on the homepage.

The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences is a public, residential high school serving grades 9–12. With a mission to empower students through compassion, innovation, integrity, and service, ASHS prepares the next generation of healthcare professionals to improve the health of communities across Alabama.
