Alabama recognizes the 82nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor

Elected officials from across Alabama are taking time today to reflect on the 82nd anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that drew the United States into World War Two. The surprise attack killed over 2,400 Americans.

Senator Katie Britt posted a video discussing the anniversary and what it means for America.

“Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the devastating attacks on our naval base in Pearl Harbor, a day which will forever live in infamy. We not only have remembered the brave Americans both service members and civilians who lost their lives, but also the critical moment in our nation’s history as the United States entered the Second World War,” said Britt. “The attack on December 7, 1941 epitomizes the resolve and fearlessness of the American people that propelled our nation to defeat the axis of evil.”

“Let us reconnect to those same principles as we confront evil in our very own day.”

On his own social media, Senator Tommy Tuberville, said of the victims from that day, “We will never forget them- and we will always honor their memory.”

Governor Kay Ivey, issued a flag memo ordering the state’s flags to be lowered to half staff in honor of the anniversary.

“Eighty-two years ago, the world watched in horror and disbelief as Japanese fighter planes launched a surprise attack on the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor Hawaii, killing more than 2,400 Americans and destroying much of the Pacific Fleet,” said Ivey. “May we never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while defending our country and protecting the American way of life.”
