President-elect Donald Trump was named Time’s “Person of the Year,” the magazine announced Thursday. This is the second time he’s been given the honor.
“Trump’s political rebirth is unparalleled in American history,” the magazine wrote. “His first term ended in disgrace, with his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results culminating in the attack on the U.S. Capitol.”
Some of Alabama’s political leaders believe the title is well deserved.
“Congratulations to [Donald Trump] on being named Time’s Person of the Year!” U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “His dedication to ushering in America’s next golden era is historic.”

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) praised Trump for overcoming many obstacles to be reelected in 2024.
“President Trump has been named TIME’s Person of the Year,” Moore said. “A leader who withstood two assassination attempts, battled Biden’s weaponized DOJ, and endured two sham impeachments. Not just TIME’s Person of the Year, but the people’s Man of the Century, President Donald J. Trump.”

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) also congratulated Trump and said he “can’t wait” to work with him next year.
“Earlier this year, President Trump was the subject of a political witch hunt. Now, he’s 39 days away from the Oval Office and TIME Person of the Year,” Strong said. “I can’t wait to work with [House GOP] to make our country great again.”
