On Monday, 27-year-old Birmingham native Grant Burdette was sworn in at the United States Department of Transportation to serve under Secretary Sean Duffy in the Trump administration.
Burdette formerly served as chief strategist for Jefferson County Commissioner Mike Bolin and worked on numerous local and statewide campaigns. In 2024, he worked for President Trump’s election campaign as a member of the advance team throughout swing states.
According to a release from the Department of Transportation, Burdette will serve in the Office of the Public Liaison.
“Today, the Trump-Vance Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced key members of the Department’s leadership team. This round of political appointees continues to expand upon the expertise needed to focus on the Department’s core mission of safety and innovative initiatives.”
Newly-appointed USDOT Sec. Sean Duffy, a former Wisconsin Congressman and Fox News Host, issued a statement on his new role stating, “President Trump has entrusted this team to reaffirm American’s complete confidence in the safety of our transportation systems.”
“It’s been nothing short of incredible seeing this team leap into action after this week’s tragedy. Our focus remains on ushering in a golden age of transportation while prioritizing the Department’s core mission of safety and delivering innovative projects that move America.”

Burdette said of his new role that, “It is the honor of a lifetime to serve under Secretary Sean Duffy in the Trump-Vance Administration. I have no doubt that under Secretary Duffy’s leadership, American transportation will become a safer, more convenient experience. Let’s get to work.”
