Alabama political leaders and opinion-makers offer their election predictions

On Tuesday, America will vote in what we have been told is “the most important election of our lifetimes,” so we all better hope for a good outcome!

This, of course, has been repeated for every presidential election I have ever voted in from 2000 on, and a month from now we will be told that 2022 is the most important election ever.

Great.

This election is almost over, and the counting is about to start, so I reached out to various lawmakers and opinion leaders in Alabama to find out what they think we will happen,

Here is what I asked:

  1. Electoral vote total between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden
  2. Who wins out of U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) and former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville
  3. Give me one wild prediction that might come true

My predictions
1. Biden 290 – Trump 248
2. Tuberville 57% – Jones 43%
3. Trump wins FL/NC/AZ/PA, wins the Electoral College vote, but loses popular vote by 10 million.

U.S. Representative Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville)
1. Trump 279 – Biden 259
2. Tuberville 57.5% – Jones 42.5%
3.  Biden wins with 350 Electoral Votes votes to Trump’s 188.

U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville)
1. Trump 306 – Biden 232
2. Tuberville 60% – Jones 40%
3. Trump wins Electoral College and popular vote.

Alabama State Senator Sam Givhan (R-Madison)
1. Trump 292 – Biden 246
2. Tuberville 56% – Jones 44%
3. GOP comes within three votes of taking the House.

Alabama State Representative Andrew Sorrell (R-Florence)
1. Trump 278 – Biden 260
2. Tuberville 56% – Jones 44%
3. Trump flips New Hampshire and its four electoral votes put him over the top Tuesday night. It’s in the realm of possibility, but it would take a miracle.

1. Biden will win by a small margin.
2. I’m much more guarded about Jones. It’s still possible but there are several factors in this election that weren’t there in 2017 making it less likely.
3. I think we’ll see larger numbers of Democratic Voters in TX than we have since the late 1970s, which could result in flipping the TX state blue.
