The Petroleum & Convenience Marketers of Alabama, a nonprofit trade association representing over 200 petroleum marketers and convenience store operators across the state, became the first major trade association to endorse U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville in his bid for Governor of Alabama in 2026 on Wednesday.

Shortly after his campaign announcement from Auburn, which drew attention nationwide, P&CMA released a resounding endorsement of the Republican candidate’s gubernatorial aspirations.

“Tommy Tuberville understands the challenges facing Alabama’s energy and retail sectors, and he is committed to supporting policies that promote economic growth, protect small businesses, and ensure a reliable fuel supply across the state,” Rex Jones, Chair of the P&CMA Board of Directors said.

“Senator Tuberville will be a strong advocate for our members in Montgomery as our next Governor. He truly understands what it takes to drive economic growth and create opportunities for local families and businesses.”

According to P&CMA, the group’s membership includes companies owning, operating, and supplying more than 3,250 convenience stores throughout Alabama, employing almost 60,000 people across the state, and playing a vital role in supporting the state’s energy infrastructure and small business community.

The group’s announcement states that the endorsement was made following a vote of the association’s elected Board of Directors, who are themselves owners and operators in the petroleum marketing and convenience store industry.

The 2026 Alabama Republican Party primary election will be held May 19, 2026. Thus far, Tuberville has drawn no primary opponents.
