The Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind has been awarded a federal contract supporting U.S. Air Force operations, according to an official contract notice from the U.S. Department of War.

The agreement covers AbilityOne Procurement List items for the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia and runs through February 5, 2029.

The federal notice describes the award as a firm-fixed-price blanket purchase agreement for tools, parts, materials, and equipment supplied through the AbilityOne program, a national initiative that creates employment opportunities for people who are blind or have significant disabilities.

The contract was issued as a sole-source acquisition through the Air Force Sustainment Center’s installation maintenance contracting division.

According to the Department of War listing, work will be performed in support of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, a major Air Force maintenance and engineering hub responsible for depot-level support for multiple aircraft platforms, including the F-15, C-5, and C-130 fleets.

Manufacturing and fulfillment under the agreement are expected to be performed by Alabama Industries for the Blind, a division of the institute that produces a wide range of goods for government customers and employs adults who are blind or deaf across Alabama.

While the federal contract notice lists a maximum ceiling value of $15 billion under the blanket purchase structure, separate reporting by AL(dot)com states the expected value of the award is $15 million and notes that an earlier federal notice incorrectly listed the higher figure before issuing a correction.

The Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind operates education, rehabilitation, and workforce programs statewide, with campuses and regional centers serving individuals with hearing and vision loss.
